Commuters and motorists continue to contend with traffic along N. Bacalso Ave. On the bright side, David Pomeranz is set to bring holiday cheer in his pre-Christmas concert. Locals and tourists can also look forward to the opening of Cebu Safari Adventure Park this week.

Starting Dec. 4, private cars will be banned from passing through N. Bacalso Avenue. The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) will enforce the ban during peak hours, which run from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña implemented the ban to ease the burden on commuters while the underpass project is being constructed. Private vehicles will have to take alternate routes. These include Macopa Street and Cabreros Street for north-bound motorists, and Maria Gochan Street, Sabellano Street, and Tagunol Street for south-bound motorists.

Cebu has no shortage of famous local restaurants serving Filipino food. But at Sampok, they offer customers a unique dining experience, too.

Sampok is the Cebuano word for sabong or cockfighting. As such, they have a glass arena where cockfighting enthusiasts can stage a friendly game or two.

Their signature dish is manok Bisaya or native chicken soup. Aside from that, they serve Pinoy favorites like garlic pork adobo, beef sinigang (sour soup), and lechon kawali (deep-fried pork belly). They also have Sampok Samplers, which includes one serving each of meat, poultry, and vegetables with unlimited rice and iced tea.

For sweet baked treats one can give as take-home gifts or pasalubong from Cebu , shoppers can head to Deliz Cakes and Pastries. Deliz offers a whole range of products like loaves, cakes, cheesecakes, bars, and cupcakes. One of their unique products is cookie shots, which is a chocolate cookie cup filled with milk. It is a twist on the classic cookies-and-milk pairing. They also have Monster Cake in a Can, or moist chocolate cake baked inside tin cans.

Deliz Cakes and Pastries can be found at Sugbo Mercado in the Garden Block of Cebu I.T. Park.

American crooner David Pomeranz is set to serenade Cebuanos in a benefit concert. Dubbed You’re The Inspiration, the pre-Christmas concert will be held this Dec. 7 at the J. Centre Mall Convention Hall. Pomeranz will be singing his hit songs like “Born for You” and “On This Day.” The students and talents of Music in Motion Cebu will also perform along with him.

The concert is for the benefit of Crossing Cultures International, a non-profit organization which carries out volunteer missions around the world. Ticket prices are at PhP350 to PhP1,500.

Officials from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Cebu has advised local disaster control units to brace for the effects of La Niña.

PAGASA-Visayas chief Oscar Tabada said that La Niña is most likely to impact Visayas and Mindanao. The La Niña phenomenon has already brought heavy rains since September. PAGASA officials forecast that there would be more rain which could cause flooding and landslides.

At least two more tropical cyclones are expected to enter the Philippines from December 2017 to March 2018.

Firecrackers will be sold only at a designated area in Cebu City.


Just in time for the Christmas season, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will be cracking down on firecrackers illegally sold in Cebu City. This follows after six persons were injured in a firecracker factory explosion in Lapu-Lapu City.

Cebu City Councilor David Tumulak warned vendors at sari-sari stores (neighborhood sundry stores) that illegally sold firecrackers will be confiscated any time. They would also be penalized for violating City Ordinance 2290 and Republic Act No. 7183, which regulate the sale of firecrackers.

Starting Dec. 5, firecrackers will be only be sold at the South Road Properties.
