Always among the top tourist destinations in Southern Luzon, Batangas is a blooming province blessed with beautiful beaches, historical sites, and natural scenery which includes the Taal Volcano. It's good to know that way down south of Manila, there is a place like this that promises delightful escapes and great adventures.

As we walk into a new year with new travel goals, this rural province looks ahead into the future with developments that serves to make Batangas shine brighter. Check out these noteworthy developments happening in Batangas this year:


1. The Outlets at Lipa

Location: Lima Technology Center, Special Economic Zone, Malvar, Lipa City, Batangas

The Outlets is the newest and is expected to be the biggest outlet mall development in Luzon by Aboitizland that will soon rise at the LiMa Technology Center in Lipa, Batangas. The Outlets will be the go-to leisure destination where shoppers can discover premium international and local brands at cheaper costs.

Phase 1, which will house restaurants and premium retail shops among 140 leasable spaces, is set to open in April this year.




2. Miramonti by Italpinas Development Corporation

Location: Millenium Dr., Brgy. San Rafael, Sto. Tomas, Batangas

Sustainable property developer Italpinas Development Corporation (IDC) will debut its first mixed-use project in Southern Luzon with Miramonti. Set to rise in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, this Italian-inspired high-rise property brags not only for being the first in the province, but also for being accessible from South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

The first phase, which is expected to finish construction by December 2018, will stand on approximately 2,000-square meters of land and will house 250 units of mixed residential and commercial use.


3. Batangas LNG Hub

Location: Tabangao, Batangas

Batangas LNG Hub is targeted to start operating in 2020 before the Malayan gas fields run out.



In response to increasing gas demand in the Asian market and the anticipated depletion of the Malampaya reserves in Palawan, the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) released plans to put up a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub in Batangas.

The Batangas LNG Hub will provide the gas requirements of five power plants that currently depend on Malampaya, as well as supplying emergency power. Start of operation of the new LNG terminal is slated in 2020.

The project features 200 hectares of industrial land, which includes a fifty-hectare area of a commercial, institutional, and residential zone, and an area containing a retail and industrial complex. LISP IV, which is situated along a major road with easy access to major cities of Batangas, as well as Metro Manila.


5. BellaVita Lian

Location: Brgy. Bagong Pook, Lian, Batangas

BellaVita is a property development unit of Ayala Land that aims to provide a comfortable, safe, and peaceful community to middle class families. Its latest project in Batangas, BellaVita Lian will soon stand on 123 hectares of land that will soon be the site of over 1,000 new affordable homes.

BellaVita Lian will have recreational amenities and security facilities, including a central park and smaller community pocket parks. The construction is set to be completed in the second quarter of 2018, while the turnover will be in December 2018.




6. PNR South Long Haul

Location: Manila-Legazpi-Matnog-Batangas

With construction expected to start this year, the Philippine National Railways (PNR) South Long Haul aims for the complete overhaul of the PNR railways into a single-track railway, and will utilize European Train Control System (ETCS) signalling for seamless transport.

The 581-kilometer standard-gauge railway will run from Manila to Legazpi, Matnog, and Batangas City. The PNR South Long Haul looks to be completed by 2022, according to the DOTr.


7. Bridge and road projects

A new bridge will soon traverse Calumpang River from Kumintang to Gulod Labac in Batangas City.

With a budget allocation of PhP 1-billion, major road-widening projects in Batangas City, which include Palico-Balayan-Batangas Road, Bauan-Mabini Road, Lobo-Batangas Road, and Manila-Batangas Road, are set to commence this year.

Also, a PhP 338-million four-lane bridge construction across Calumpang River that will connect Sitio Ferry in Barangay Kumintang and Barangay Gulod Labac is slated to be built by May 2018. This is expected to make traveling to SM City Batangas easier for those in the downtown area.


8. Batangas-Odiongan-Caticlan Trips via OceanJet 3

Going to Batangas from Romblon will only take four hours with the new OceanJet 3.



A ferry trip between Batangas and Romblon will now take only four hours, once operations of the new OceanJet3 Batangas-Odiongan-Caticlan ferry line of Ocean Fast Ferries commences this year.

With a seating capacity of 332, OceanJet 3 will operate daily, starting from Batangas port at 6:00 AM and arriving at Odiongan port at 10:00 AM. The ferry's final stop is Caticlan port before heading back to Odiongan, from which the ship will depart at 12:10 PM and arrive back at Batangas port by 2:00 PM. Tickets range from PhP1,100 to PhP2,500.

Enticed by the upward momentum of the Philippine economy, German manufacturer of gypsum-based plaster boards, Knauf Gips KG, has invested in a USD50-million manufacturing plant located in Calaca, Batangas.

This foreign direct investment will not only contribute to the country's economic growth but will also make a direct impact on the locals of Batangas by creating at least 100 job opportunities. Commercial production is set to start early this year.


10. Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Unity Park

Location: Batangas Greenvale, Balete, Batangas

Initiated by the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) Colleges, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Unity Park is currently being developed on 40 hectares of land in Balete town, near Taal Lake in Batangas.

A first of its kind in the Philippines, the ASEAN Unity Park will be a seat of blooming trees and flowers that can only be found in the Philippines and other ASEAN nations, symbolizing unity among the ten ASEAN states. The project was announced in time for the 50th anniversary of ASEAN.




11. Cavite-Tagaytay-Batangas Expressway (CTBEx)

Proposed by Metro Pacific Cavite-Laguna (MPCALA) Holdings Incorporated and Metro Pacific Tollways South Corporation in early 2017, the Cavite-Tagaytay-Batangas Expressway (CTBEx) is a 47-kilometer tollway that will link key areas of Cavite and Tagaytay to Nasugbu, Batangas. The development will cut travel time by at least an hour for Manila commuters bound for Tagaytay and Batangas.

The proposed project will see progress this year once the Swiss challenge, where other parties have the chance to submit their bids, is held. If successful, the construction of CBTEx will start in the first half of 2019.

Initiated by the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) Colleges, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Unity Park is currently being developed on 40 hectares of land in Balete town, near Taal Lake in Batangas.

A first of its kind in the Philippines, the ASEAN Unity Park will be a seat of blooming trees and flowers that can only be found in the Philippines and other ASEAN nations, symbolizing unity among the ten ASEAN states. The project was announced in time for the 50th anniversary of ASEAN.

Proposed by Metro Pacific Cavite-Laguna (MPCALA) Holdings Incorporated and Metro Pacific Tollways South Corporation in early 2017, the Cavite-Tagaytay-Batangas Expressway (CTBEx) is a 47-kilometer tollway that will link key areas of Cavite and Tagaytay to Nasugbu, Batangas. The development will cut travel time by at least an hour for Manila commuters bound for Tagaytay and Batangas.

The proposed project will see progress this year once the Swiss challenge, where other parties have the chance to submit their bids, is held. If successful, the construction of CBTEx will start in the first half of 2019.

The Port City of the South has new attractions you wouldn't want to miss!


Always among the top tourist destinations in Southern Luzon, Batangas is a blooming province blessed with beautiful beaches, historical sites, and natural scenery which includes the Taal Volcano. It's good to know that way down south of Manila, there is a place like this that promises delightful escapes and great adventures.

As we walk into a new year with new travel goals, this rural province looks ahead into the future with developments that serves to make Batangas shine brighter. Check out these noteworthy developments happening in Batangas this year:


1. The Outlets at Lipa

Location: Lima Technology Center, Special Economic Zone, Malvar, Lipa City, Batangas

The Outlets is the newest and is expected to be the biggest outlet mall development in Luzon by Aboitizland that will soon rise at the LiMa Technology Center in Lipa, Batangas. The Outlets will be the go-to leisure destination where shoppers can discover premium international and local brands at cheaper costs.

Phase 1, which will house restaurants and premium retail shops among 140 leasable spaces, is set to open in April this year.




2. Miramonti by Italpinas Development Corporation

Location: Millenium Dr., Brgy. San Rafael, Sto. Tomas, Batangas
Target Launch: December 2018

Sustainable property developer Italpinas Development Corporation (IDC) will debut its first mixed-use project in Southern Luzon with Miramonti. Set to rise in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, this Italian-inspired high-rise property brags not only for being the first in the province, but also for being accessible from South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

The first phase, which is expected to finish construction by December 2018, will stand on approximately 2,000-square meters of land and will house 250 units of mixed residential and commercial use.


3. Batangas LNG Hub

Location: Tabangao, Batangas
Target Launch: 2020

Batangas LNG Hub is targeted to start operating in 2020 before the Malayan gas fields run out.



In response to increasing gas demand in the Asian market and the anticipated depletion of the Malampaya reserves in Palawan, the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) released plans to put up a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub in Batangas.

The Batangas LNG Hub will provide the gas requirements of five power plants that currently depend on Malampaya, as well as supplying emergency power. Start of operation of the new LNG terminal is slated in 2020.


4. Light Industry and Science Park IV (LISP IV)

Location: Along Southern Tagalog Arterial Road, Malvar Cybergreen, Malvar, Batangas
Target Launch: 2020

Light Industry and Science Park IV in Malvar, Batangas will house 10 hectares of commercial land.



A new project by the Science Park of the Philippines, Inc. (SPPI), Light Industry and Science Park IV (LISP IV) will soon rise amid the grass fields of Malvar, Batangas as a part of Malvar Cybergreen.

The project features 200 hectares of industrial land, which includes a fifty-hectare area of a commercial, institutional, and residential zone, and an area containing a retail and industrial complex. LISP IV, which is situated along a major road with easy access to major cities of Batangas, as well as Metro Manila.


5. BellaVita Lian

Location: Brgy. Bagong Pook, Lian, Batangas
Target Launch: December 2018

BellaVita Lian gives families in Batangas more options for affordable living.

BellaVita is a property development unit of Ayala Land that aims to provide a comfortable, safe, and peaceful community to middle class families. Its latest project in Batangas, BellaVita Lian will soon stand on 123 hectares of land that will soon be the site of over 1,000 new affordable homes.

BellaVita Lian will have recreational amenities and security facilities, including a central park and smaller community pocket parks. The construction is set to be completed in the second quarter of 2018, while the turnover will be in December 2018.




6. PNR South Long Haul

Location: Manila-Legazpi-Matnog-Batangas
Target Launch: Q2 2022

People in Metro Manila will soon have faster access to Batangas City with the PNR South Long Haul.

With construction expected to start this year, the Philippine National Railways (PNR) South Long Haul aims for the complete overhaul of the PNR railways into a single-track railway, and will utilize European Train Control System (ETCS) signalling for seamless transport.

The 581-kilometer standard-gauge railway will run from Manila to Legazpi, Matnog, and Batangas City. The PNR South Long Haul looks to be completed by 2022, according to the DOTr.


7. Bridge and road projects

A new bridge will soon traverse Calumpang River from Kumintang to Gulod Labac in Batangas City.

With a budget allocation of PhP 1-billion, major road-widening projects in Batangas City, which include Palico-Balayan-Batangas Road, Bauan-Mabini Road, Lobo-Batangas Road, and Manila-Batangas Road, are set to commence this year.

Also, a PhP 338-million four-lane bridge construction across Calumpang River that will connect Sitio Ferry in Barangay Kumintang and Barangay Gulod Labac is slated to be built by May 2018. This is expected to make traveling to SM City Batangas easier for those in the downtown area.


8. Batangas-Odiongan-Caticlan Trips via OceanJet 3

Going to Batangas from Romblon will only take four hours with the new OceanJet 3.



A ferry trip between Batangas and Romblon will now take only four hours, once operations of the new OceanJet3 Batangas-Odiongan-Caticlan ferry line of Ocean Fast Ferries commences this year.

With a seating capacity of 332, OceanJet 3 will operate daily, starting from Batangas port at 6:00 AM and arriving at Odiongan port at 10:00 AM. The ferry's final stop is Caticlan port before heading back to Odiongan, from which the ship will depart at 12:10 PM and arrive back at Batangas port by 2:00 PM. Tickets range from PhP1,100 to PhP2,500.


9. Big foreign investment in Batangas construction plant

Location: Calaca Seaport, Calaca, Batangas

Enticed by the upward momentum of the Philippine economy, German manufacturer of gypsum-based plaster boards, Knauf Gips KG, has invested in a USD50-million manufacturing plant located in Calaca, Batangas.

This foreign direct investment will not only contribute to the country's economic growth but will also make a direct impact on the locals of Batangas by creating at least 100 job opportunities. Commercial production is set to start early this year.
