Boracay Island has always been a tourist hotspot. This is not about to change in the coming years. In fact, a continuous influx of tourists is expected, reinforcing the strong tourism industry in the island. Besides visiting tourists, the island is also attracting further investments, with businesses sprouting in every corner.

As another year begins, more developments are in the works. Here are five of the biggest developments in Boracay this 2018.

1. Airport expansion

Expansion projects at Boracay Airport will give way to more flights.

As the number of tourists visiting Boracay continues to grow, a bigger airport facility is to be expected in 2018. Caticlan is the major gateway to the world-famous island, being only a ten-minute ferry ride away. Caticlan Airport, officially named the Godofredo P. Ramos Airport, has been undergoing upgrades and is now called Boracay Airport. The improved facilities include a new passenger terminal, which is set to be completed by the third quarter of 2018. The expansion is eyed to cater to the increasing number of tourists flying via Caticlan.

San Miguel Corporation, who owns the airport, has also undertaken runway extension projects. The development is meant to accommodate bigger aircrafts to serve more domestic and international flights. With the expansion, airport management is already looking to accommodate six million passengers a year.
